What does the definition of Chành xe mean?


What is Chành xe?

Chành xe is a place that  runs a transportation service business place such as present transportation companies.  However, Chành xe usually conveys  goods to limited places, not like other transportation companies who can convey to a wide diversity of province.

Some example about Chành xe


  • Bạc Liêu Chành xe sends and transports maily from Sai Gon to Bac Lieu and vice versa.
  • Phú Quốc Chành xe sends and transports maily from Sai Gon to Phu Quoc and vice versa.


Chành xe was a popular word in former South of Vietnam, especially in Cho Lon area and South West provinces; while it is so sweird in the North and the Middle of Vietnam.

This word came from Chinese. Based on Sài Gòn năm xưa book, this word had original form was Chành xa.

Nowadays, you can see this word appears on the sign in District 5 and District 6 of Sai Gon (Ho Chi Minh city current),… areas where majority of Chinese is living. Chành xe has not been written on book or newspaper anymore. Therefore, some descedants born in the South do not know this word at all.
